Seth on the RPG Social Contract

Seth Skorkowsky is a writer and gamer. I've only listened to one of his books on audible, but I enjoyed that, so I bought the rest of his Valducan series. I do enjoy his YouTube channel, though he talks mostly about Call of Cthulhu (a game I've never played). He also waxes poetic about other games and the hobby in general. I appreciated this one enough that I want to share it with my peeps. Just a little video on what responsibilities and expectations are required of everyone participating in a Tabletop Role-Playing group. This is good stuff. You can find his books here at  amazon

Make America Better

So I should probably stay away from Facebook. I mean, I usually do and that’s for the best. But I’m seeing a lot of really thinly veiled racism, political ignorance, and other shit that annoys the hell out of me coming from people who should just be better. Having said that, I’m about to piss everyone I’ve ever known off; friends, relatives, coworkers, neighbors, even people who don’t know me, pretty much everyone. On the president, he got elected and that's a thing. Okay. I hope it all works out for the best, but it sure looks like a shit storm at this point. Trump is a dirty business man, a slimy celebrity, and now a crooked politician. Yes, he’s rich and successful, but he’s not a good person. Politics aside, he's just not. All the various scandals and outrages the media keeps pulling out and the outrageous, unexplainable things that Trump does… they’re all centered on one thing. It’s all a diversion and an attempt to take the focus off the fact that he has tripped on his ow

The wedding of my sister-in-law to her handsome groom has come and gone. It was last weekend and I didn't get around to mentioning it. Congratulations Josh and Kristen, I wish you many very happy years of wedded bliss. And Josh, I wasn't kidding. That was a pretty swanky gala and I think it'd be great if you threw one every year! You know, for the family. Thursday was the graduation ceremony for my youngest boy. The whole gang turned out to watch him walk and it went without a hitch, despite the heat and a stadium full of 18-year-olds and their parents. He made it out of high school and into world with only minor bumps and bruises. Now, despite the assertion that those were the longest, hardest, worst 4-years of a persons life (they're not—that'd be middle school) it only gets more challenging from here on out. I wish him well and hope he finds his luck. This weekend is the big summer kick-off. My mother-in-law is here. Summer is here. I cleaned up the patio and got

Hello world!

Welcome to my blog inside a blog. This is the part of the website that will be dedicated to tabletop role-playing games, pen and paper gaming, or whatever else you want to call it. Mostly it's a Dungeons & Dragons thing. Old campaigns. New campaigns. Maps and notes and ideas. I think you get the idea. I just felt this part of my life should have it's own section of the website, as opposed to being mixed in with all the other arohen stuff. Let's see what happens.

Happy Mother's Day

A day of celebration and of honoring the mother of the family, as well as motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in society. Let's celebrate with a movie celebrating my mom. and here's one to celebrate the mother of my children. Both of those were compliments of the Google Photos Assistant. I only take responsibility for posting them. ;) Love you both. Pushing Ahead, Despite Myself

It's not you. It's me. Seriously. This semester, Summer 2018, I signed up for EL 144 Basic Electricity and Electronics and TE 103 Intermediate Technical Math (Online). Each are 4-credit classes packed into an expedited schedule, 9-weeks for the first and 7-weeks for the second. One week in and I'm thinking this is going to be a load to haul. I've spent 15-hours doing math and still haven't finished the weeks work yet and it took 13-hours of class and study time to do my electronics work. I have no time for projects or websites or much more than work and school. I leave for work at 8 am and leave school at 10 pm. I basically have two hours to eat, shower, shit, and do whatever else needs doing. Both of these classes are math heavy. Which is kind of an issue for me, as I've had no math since 9th grade (1982 for those who are trying to do the math) and that was just algebra. I'm trying to pick up all this college level math on the fly. And let me tell you, I

Scrubbed Everything Down

I've given everything a thorough cleaning. Through a combination of several plugins (Anti-Malware, Sucuri, Wordfence, and Bluehost) I think I've cleaned the bug from my site. And that is not an invitation to test my security. I shut off the comments, changed the passwords, removed a couple 'users',  and tightened things up. As an added bonus, I seem to have deleted the entire baenrahl site--accidentally. That last bit makes me less than happy, given the current back-up situation around these parts. I don't know what I'm going to do about, if anything. It's been a while since I did anything with that stuff and the RPG aspect sorta didn't go anwhere. So, what to do? Whatever it is, it'll be starting from scratch. I still need to get on the phone with Bluehost and get what I've got coming to me, ensure we're on the same page, and generally read them the riot act. But for now, I think I've got everything cleaned up and locked dow

Extinction Level Event

A few things to share. 1.) Still having issues keeping the site malware free. I was  going to take it apart and restore from a back-up, but I made the mistake of thinking that the Pro Backup service that comes with my Pro package at Bluehost was actually a thing... it's not. So I need to call them and get a few things straightened out. Mainly, I'd like to get the services that I'm paying for. I'll probably have a full tear down on the site this weekend to find and destroy whatever malware is hiding in my files. 2.) Final grades were posted for the winter semester and I pulled off an A in each of my classes-- HVA 221 Ductwork Construction and Design was the one I just finished and HVA 230 HVACR Elec Controls was earlier in the Winter Semester. Both were three credit classes, so I added another 24 grade points to my total and my GPA is sitting at 3.839, according to my Unofficial GRCC Transcript. 3.) I came home to find this on the office floor. [caption id="attach
